Once again Emmarentia Dam was the venue for the Starboard Altitude 10km SUP Race where we had SUP racers coming to compete from all corners of South Africa and Mozambique in the 6th leg of the national SUPSA rankings series. The event was a resounding success, with great weather and record participation at a Jo’burg event.

Once the serious racing was over and social SUP paddlers had their full of fun in the sun, we moved across to the Clubhouse for prize giving. In this time our paddling mates who didn’t race came to assist with a really awesome poitjie that quietly bubbled away during the day. Once race prize giving was over, tummies were full and with a few cold ones inside of us, we got stuck into the business end of the fundraiser ~ the auction & raffle…

Surfing South Africa is proud to announce that the Board of Directors has ratified the selection of the members of the national SUP team which will represent South Africa at the 5th ISA World Stand-up Paddle and Paddleboard Championships to be held in Fiji from 12th to 20th November 2016.

The national team to represent South Africa at the ISA World Championships is made up of athletes, coaches and management from Kwazulu – Natal, Gauteng and the Western Cape.

Thomas King and Roxy Davis (both Western Cape) and Brandon Ribbink (Kwazulu – Natal) will compete in the SUP Surfing discipline, Dylan Frick and Tarryn King (Western Cape)

Chris Couve (Gauteng), Jacqueline De Billot (Kwazulu-Natal) and Thomas King will participate in the SUP Racing discipline and Ribbink, Malec Odendaal (Kwazulu – Natal) Anna Notten and Candice Murray (Western Cape) will compete in the Prone Paddleboard racing division.

The Team Manager is Angela Whittle (Kwazulu-Natal and the Coaches are Shayne Chips (Kwazulu-Natal) and James Raaff (Western Cape)

“Surfing South Africa congratulates each member of the national SUP team on their selection to represent their country. This is a prestigious International Surfing Association sanctioned event and we look forward to watching the team waving the South African flag high in Fiji,” said Robin de Kock, General Manager of Surfing South Africa.

The ISA will gather the world’s best SUP and Paddleboard athletes in Fiji from November 12-20 for the 2016 Fiji ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship!

2016 will mark the fifth edition of the competition, which has become the fastest growing in the ISA World Championship Series. In 2015 participation more than doubled since the event’s inception in 2012 as 27 Nations and 260 athletes graced the shores of Sayulita, Mexico in an incredible week of competition that resulted in Team USA earning their first-ever Gold Medal.

The highly anticipated Starboard Emmarentia 2016 10km SUP Race is just around the corner and entries for this event are now open. The race will be followed by the RSA SUP Team to Fiji Fundraiser dinner starting from 6pm at the Dabs Canoe Club House. It would be great if you could plan to stay for the evening. The International Surfing Association (ISA) today announced that the ISA World Standup Paddle (SUP) and Paddleboard Championship will be held in Denmark in September 2017 , with specific actions to be determined in the near future dates.

The ISA event will be organized by Friends of Cold Hawaii , an association that conducts annual championships of water sports, in collaboration with the Danish Surfing and Rafting Federation (DSRF), Sportevent Denmark, Wonderful Copenhagen and Copenhagen Watersports – the largest club Standup Paddle and rafting in Denmark.

The announcement was made ​​in Denmark House, the meeting place of the National Olympic Committee of Denmark during the Olympic Games Rio 2016, located at Ipanema Beach. The Executive Director of the ISA, Robert Fasulo , and the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee Friends of Cold Hawaii, Finn Jorsal, signed the contract. Also the Vice President of the ISA SUP World Champion, Casper Steinfath of Denmark, attended the event.

The ISA World Championship will take place in two locations: the SUP and Paddleboard Racing in Copenhagen, the capital, and the SUP Surfing in Klitmøller (known as Cold Hawaii) – an ideal location on the northwest coast of Denmark.

The announcement of the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship 2017 comes after the confirmation of the 2016 edition, which will take place in recognized worldwide waves of Cloudbreak, Fiji from 12 to 20 November 2016.

Since joining the World Championship Series ISA in 2012 in Peru, the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship has become the fastest growing event. In the 2015 event, turnout was more than double that in the first event of 2012. 27 Nations and 260 athletes gathered on the beaches of Sayulita, Mexico for an amazing week of competition. The result was the first Gold Medal for Team USA.
