WORLD SUP & PADDLEBOARD CHAMPIONSHIPS

SELECTING ATHLETES FOR SUP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Stand Up Paddling (SUP) is a recognised sport by both the International Surfing Association and the International Canoe Federation. The ISA and ICF each host World Championship events annually. The ISA World Championship events include SUP long distance races, technical races and SUP surfing, whereas the ICF World Championship events include SUP technical racing, sprints and long distance racing.

South African SUP paddlers compete in a series of events, both flat water races and surfing competitions. Their position counts towards their overall ranking points which are totalled for year-end rankings. This, along with a specific event’s selection criteria, will determine their inclusion in the SA SUP Squad and finally the SA SUP Team.

Read more about the selection criteria in the SUPSA Rulebooks.

We also have to take into account the relevant rulebooks from ISA and ICF for their respective events.
