This is South Africa’s largest Flat Water Stand Up Paddling Race.

It is race 2 of 8 SUPSA sanctioned Races, so will count towards your South African Ranking. This event is not to be missed for both Serious and Recreational Racers. Zinkwazi is also a great destination for the whole family.

Environmental Citizen Action: Call to SUP Paddlers to join in the annual Peninsula Paddle on Cape Town’s inland and ocean waterways

 

The time of the year has come around so quickly and the annual Peninsula Paddle is just 4 weeks away.

 

The Peninsula Paddle 2016 will take place on the Sunday 5th June –  World Environment Day!

There are several SUP friendly zone to paddle or provide safety support for kayak paddlers:

  1. Start: Zandvlei
  2. Princess Vlei
  3. Table Bay- ocean paddle from mouth of Black River to entrance to Milnerton lagoon
  4. Surf zone entrance to Milnerton lagoon (SUPs provide SAFTEY SUPPORT)
  5. Final leg: Milnerton lagoon, ending at Woodbridge

SUPSA invites applications for the positions of Team Coach and Team Manager to accompany the South African Team to the 5th ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championships to be held in Fiji from 12 -20 November 2016.

Successful candidates will be awarded their South African Colours and will enjoy an exceptional opportunity to participate in a unique World Championship event that this year will be held  in the most exciting venue since its inception.

The positions are as follows:

Team Coach

The Team Coach is required to assume overall responsibility for Team training, conditioning, performance and motivation both prior to, and during, the event.

In selecting the Team Coach, preference is to be given to candidates who can demonstrate experience working;

  • with elite athletes, preferably with competition and/or coaching experience at national or international surfing events.
  • within a team dynamic in an intensely competitive team event environment

Team Manager

The Team Manager will assume overall responsibility for managing the team including the responsibility for budgeting, expenditure and fundraising, as well as liaison and reporting to SUPSA

In selecting the Team Manager, preference is to be given to candidates who can demonstrate experience in:

  • successfully managing a large team of athletes and support staff in a major event environment over a 2 week period.
  • planning and implementing all team logistics prior to departure and during the event.
  • successfully liaising with the local and international media and giving accurate information for daily press releases and website requirements.
  • relating to athletes and team coaches while playing a pivotal role in team harmonics and discipline

Applicants must be:

South African Residents or Citizens in possession of either an SA ID or Passport
Able to fund their own costs in participating in the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championships;

Applicants must please forward a short email indicating their interest and motivating their selection to vicepresident@supsa.org before 15 May 2016.

The International Surfing Association (ISA) has today confirmed that the 2016 ISA World StandUp Paddle (SUP) and Paddleboard Championship will be hosted in Fiji – the first time that an ISA event will be held in the Pacific island chain, further highlighting the global growth and expansion of SUP Surfing and Racing.

The 2015 SUPSA Award evening took place at the Woodstock Grill & Tap in Cape Town on Saturday night 12th March.

The SUPSA awards was an evening of fun and friendship as we recognise the achievements of our athletes during the  2015 SUPSA Surfing and Racing Series at the SUPSA Annual Prize Giving Evening. The evening was presented by guest speaker Greg Bertish, who also presented a very interesting slide show of the history of SUP’ing in South Africa.

Victoria Cup, Japan to open the 2016 World Championship Series

South African Champ Dylan Frick will be lining up against the best SUP racers in the world

 

In just over a month’s time, the Waterman League and World’s best Stand Up Paddle racers will return to the beautiful Kanagawa Prefecture of Japan for the Opening event of the 2016 World Series, the Victoria Cup to be held at Zushi Beach, by Hayama Harbor.

Now in our 3rd year in Japan and as we witness exponential growth for the sport in the country, we are excited to return to Zushi Beach for what will be a groundbreaking event in 2016 and set the tone for a breakout season for the World Series as a whole.

Taking place from the 13th – 15th May, the Victoria Cup will host Pro division Long distance and Sprint Racing as part of the World Series circuit, but also Pro-Am and Amateur racing, with 6km, 3km and 1km courses, not to mention youth racing and the now famous, Na Kama Kai Clinic.

It’s time to get ready ready for the next instalment of the 2016 SUPSA Race series.

The King of the Bay SUP Race, as part of the Bay Union Surfski Series, is around the corner and it’s time to get ready for some bumper SUP action through the Durban harbour.

Date: Sunday, 24th April
Time: approx. 9am
Start: Stella Canoe Club
Finish: Marine Surf Lifesaving Club

You can enter on the day at the start, so get there early or pre-enter at DUC on Thursday, 21 April, after the dice.

Approved PFDs compulsory – Bring leash in case conditions warrant it. 

This is a SUPSA sanctioned race, so R50 extra on top of your entry will go to SUPSA. This race will count towards your SUPSA ranking.
