MEET THE TEAM – OPEN WOMEN

Tarryn King –  Technical & Sprint

Our top SUP Open Woman for the last 10 years! Wow, how Tarryn stays on the top of her game is inspiring!

Tarryn has been Stand up paddling and surfing for several years. She took a short break from the international racing stage as she started her family, but in 2023, Tarryn made an incredible comeback, winning two bronze medals in the Sprints at both the ISA and ICF SUP World Championships. She has decided to take 2024 to focus on competing professionally and has already embarked on two successful trips to Europe in the first part of the year. With SUNOVA backing her surf, racing and SUP endeavours, she’s fully back on the competitive scene, actively pursuing her goals, and we eagerly await to see how the rest of the season will unfold!

Tarryn will be taking part in the Open Women’s Technical and Sprint Races in Denmark. A mom, wife, surfer, stand up paddler, coach and fitness mentor, Tarryn is ready to race!

MEET THE TEAM – 40+ Masters

Murray James – Sprint & Long Distance

Murray’s  Stand Up Paddleboarding journey started after 6 years of living in Gauteng.

Murray returned to his home city Durban in early 2018 with a passion to enjoy all things ocean-related.

He started Stand Up Paddleboarding for the first time in 2018, and first stood on a race board in late 2019. There was no looking back from that point on.

He has won the King of the Bay, the Zinkwazi Classic & the East Coast Classic and was selected for the SA SUP team to compete in Poland in 2022.

He is currently the KZN representative for SUPSA, as well as sitting on the board of the Durban Undersea Club in the SUP portfolio.

Murray will be taking part in the Sprint and Distance races in the 40+ category at this years ICF World Champs in Florida, USA

MEET THE TEAM – MANAGER & SUPPORTER

Janette James is married to Murray James and they live in Durban.

Janette started Stand Up Paddleboarding in 2018 after Murray told her he had seen whales (which she is still waiting to see).

While Janette has taken a much less competitive approach to paddling, she loves spending time on her board out on the ocean.

She particularly enjoys playing around when there are big swells or heading out to the horizon with Murray.

She is also the only person who has paddled 20km in one morning on the Point Canals.

Janette will be travelling to Florida with Murray and the team. She will be supporting the team as Manager, making sure everyone’s prepared and on time for their respective races, ensuring their success at the World Championships.

Steve Tripney – Player 23

Steve Tripney will be supporting the team as the mom, dad, bag carrier, photographer and team spirit while traveling! He will make sure that all supporters are up to date with results, news and much more.

Thank you Steve, you giving more than is acknowledged to the sport of Stand-Up Paddling and to your son, Cam.
